Talensi: MP supports Winkogo police project with Gh¢10k, 100 bags of cement and 2,000 blocks

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Talensi Constituency in the Upper East Region, Mr. Daniel Dung Mahama, on Saturday, 23 May 2026, supported the people of with funding and building materials to help complete the community police station project.

According to him, he and his team officially handed over GH¢10,000 in cash to the Winkogo community towards the project. He also announced that on Monday, 25 May 2026, 2,000 blocks and 100 bags of cement will be delivered to the project site to kick-start construction.

Mr. Mahama explained that the support is a fulfilment of a promise he made to the people of Winkogo during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He noted that once a community has begun a good initiative, there is no reason to abandon it especially when it will benefit the wider Talensi Constituency.

He emphasised that the police station project will help improve security for residents and contribute to safer communities beyond .

Mr. Charles Ateem, Chairman of the Winkogo Community Police Station Project, stated that the project meets modern standards because the design was provided by the National Police Department, which also supports the community with technical guidance and upgrades during construction.

He added that once the foundation stage is completed (including the use of gravel), the police will further support the community to ensure the project follows required police specifications.Mr. Ateem noted that the project was initiated in 2021 following an increase in broad daylight robbery cases recorded at the business centre, shops, and surrounding areas of Winkogo.

He said that when completed, the police station will provide security not only for Winkogo, but also for important institutions and areas such as,Bolgatanga Senior High School,the Astro Turf, and the entire Winkogo community and beyond.

He further revealed that the community has already moulded over 7,500 blocks through local initiative and mobilisations. He also said with support from the headmaster of Bolgatanga Senior High School (Big Boss), Mr. Anthony Adimazoya, they were able to secure a portion of land for the project.

He added that plans are underway to build accommodation for the station officer.Mr. Ateem thanked the MP, Mr. Daniel Dung Mahama, for the kind gesture of GH¢10,000, along with the 2,000 blocks and 100 bags of cement, which he said will go a long way to help them achieve the goal of completing the police station.He also appealed to the MP and the DCE to support them with gravel, saying the community intends to use DRIP equipment to complete the graveling stage.
