A young man, about 18 years old, from the Doba community, a suburb of the Kassena Nankana Municipality in the Upper East Region of Ghana, is suspected to be under the influence of drugs and marijuana. On February 15, 2026, he murdered his father, Mr. Nyaaba Apungo, aged 90, with a cutlass, inflicting multiple wounds that led to his death.
The suspect, identified as Atingane Nyaaba, also inflicted serious wounds on his mother, Mrs. Atagewura, aged 60, and his sister-in-law, Anabel Zinge, aged 35. Both women fell unconscious during the attack. In a disturbing turn of events,

When contacted by Word News, DSP Lawrence Abaaduko Adombire of the Kassena Nankana Municipality police confirmed that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the mortuary.
The young man, along with his mother and sister-in-law, are all hospitalized at the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital and are responding to treatment.
DSP Abaaduko explained that he had spoken with the police detective, who has not yet been able to take statements from the victims. It seems that they were the only people in the house at the time of the incident.
The detective reported that the last communication from the father indicated that his younger son had attacked them. By the time help arrived, the father was already in critical condition, while the mother and sister-in-law were unconscious.
According to the detective, the brother mentioned that Atingane had also harmed himself before running into the bush. After a chase, they apprehended him, but he was unable to speak, leaving the details of the incident unclear.
DSP Abaaduko mentioned that they hope the mother and sister-in-law will regain enough consciousness to provide more information about what happened.While it is believed that drug use may have contributed to the violent outburst, the exact cause remains unknown. Investigators anticipate that the surviving family members may shed light on the events leading up to this tragic incident.
