Talensi constituency NDC party office set ablaze over John Millim appointment as DCE

Angry youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Talensi constituency set the party office ablaze on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2 to 3am, the action was in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Mr. John Millim Nbaabwonya as the District Chief Executive (DCE) on April 4, 2025.

Word News visited the site of the incident and gathered that the youth took this drastic step due to their dissatisfaction with the nomination of the party’s constituency chairman. They plan to express their displeasure further on Monday, April 7, 2025, with a demonstration aimed at sending a strong message that they find the appointment unacceptable. They also dispute claims that the fire was caused by an electrical fault, asserting that the party office had no prior electrical issues.

In an exclusive interview, Mr. Michael Nangena, the constituency communication officer, described the fire incident as a mystery. He stated, “We cannot ascertain what led to the destruction of our office in Tongo. It’s still a mystery. Our office staff were unaware of the situation at the time, as they had gone to bed early.”

He added, “Given the current weather conditions, we realize that nights are quite cool. around 2 to 3am , we received reports that the members of the party who  were awakened by the incident. We can not definitively say if it was an accident or an electrical fault. Our first step was to file a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service.”

The fire has destroyed the most valuable things of the party .

Residents who spoke to Word News off the record indicated that the angry youth’s actions could have led to significant damage in the area, potentially destroying many shops if the Ghana National Fire Service had delayed in responding to the call. Fortunately, the firefighters managed to salvage some of the party’s properties.
