Kumasi: Bisexual escapes lynching; family can’t trace his whereabouts

A middle-aged man accused of practising bisexuality has escaped death following an outraged attack he suffered at Bouho, a town in the Afigya-Kwabre district of the Ashanti Region.

Identified as Karim Yannaba Majeed, some residents of the area accused him of practising bisexuality. On December 24, 2023 a group of young men invaded his rented apartment and subjected him to severe beatings.

His accusers, armed with varied offensive objects almost lynched him. They claimed some persons have identified him as a bisexual who is luring and attempting to recruit others into the practice.

Karim is said to have managed to escape from his attackers upon the intervention of some persons who rushed to the scene.

Sources available to Word News indicates  that Karim was in an on-and-off manner usually seen moving with strangers and unfamiliar men in the area. This raised and swelled the suspicion.

Sources disclosed that this is not the only mob attack meted out to alleged bisexuals in the community. Others narrated that most of these attacks go unreported as the practice is highly abhorred.

A close relation to Karim told Word News   that all efforts to establish contact with victim prove futile. “we have made calls to other family members just to know if he is currently lodging with a relative somewhere,  but non of our relatives have heard from him since the attack. We are at a lost as to what to do”.

Said to have hailed from the North, Karim is a Muslim by faith.

Efforts are underway for the passage of an anti-homosexuality bill by lawmakers.  Parliament is said to have done enough work since the bail was laid barely two years ago.
