Mr Richard Kumadoe, Security analyst

A fraud prevention expert and a security consultant, Richard Kumadoe has expressed worry following a banter between the people of Bawku and security personnel over the years regarding extra judicial killings in the area.

He exclusively told word news that government needs a new approach on the use of the security forces to advert the conflict situation in Bawku.

According to the security analyst, government’s approach to bringing lasting peace to Bawku has not been good because the situation does not need law enforcement. For him, government needs a new approach to the peace resolution process. government need to asses the security present in Bawku. Government should be asking why the security is in Bawku, and what they are doing. If they are not doing things right, then there is the need for a new approach.

“If its about who is a chief and who is not a chief and you send law enforcement officers there, but approach is not right, that is why anytime the law enforcement officers goes out to do what they do in the best way possible, and then they have a backlash of the people and so I think government will have to look at this whole approach of stationing law enforcement officers in Bawku in dealing with a particular issue which has nothing to with law enforcement”.

It’s clear, that, at some point, and at some specific locations, in Bawku, the availability of gun, bullets, and gun fire, is increasingly becoming burdensome, to community dwellers, and law enforcement officers, stationed in Bawku, to maintain law, and order.

Due to the above situation, security agencies, and their officers, has been called into action, on short notices, to ensure law and order is maintained, within security management guidelines, and in so doing, their operational effectiveness has been assessed, broadly, by interested persons, and agencies, far, and near.

In direct relation to what happens anytime, security officers are called into action, and the maintenance of deployment mandate, it’s a reflection of the current situation, and the outcome is achieved, so far, at Bawku.

“Since the Police in particular, has been deployed, stationed, and placed at Bawku for the purposes of helping to maintain law and order, it is great to ask that, for all these while, how many people have been arrested, since deployment, what are the investigations outcomes, the category of people who have been firing those guns, and for what reason?

With specific regard to the presence of the Military, and the agitation by community dwellers, to let them leave Bawku, it is important to ask, or find answers, if any, especially, when the Military is seen to be playing the 1st responders role, in key critical moments, and on some specifical occasions”. He noted.
