The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly is up in arms against the District Chief Executive of the Bongo District Assembly, Hon. Rita Atanga, who has defied orders from the Municipal Assembly to stop erecting a permanent structure on it’s property .
The Assembly through inside source, got wind of efforts by the DCE to erect an expanded structure to replace a temporal structure which she previously operated as a drinking spot within the Bencyn yard located in front of the Municipal Police station on Saturday 5th August, 2023.
The team from the Assembly lead by the Municipal building inspector, Mr. Awumi Alphonsus rushed to the place and placed a notice directing the artisans who were busily working to stop work and asked Hon. Rita to produce her permit. At the site, the team noticed that a floodlight was erected to provide visibility for the workers to work throughout the night to evade the notice of Assembly authorities.
When a reporter with Word Fm visited the location on Sunday 6th August, 2023 at about 8:30 am for first hand information, we noticed that the DCE and artisans had defied the hault notice and built the structure with blocks and sand to the lintel level.
At about 12:00 noon when we went there again, the building of the structure had proceeded to the roofing level with carpenters busily nailing wood together on top of the building.
When we called the Municipal building inspector for his reaction to the development, he said he is waiting to report the unfortunate development to his boss on Monday to decide the next line of action.
