Minority to Stay Out of Parliament Over James Gyakye Quayson’s Court Case.

The Minority Group in the Parliament of Ghana has served notice to the speaker, their intention to stay out of Parliament and to accompany the newly elected member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, to court any day he is scheduled to appear in court to defend himself in the perjury case that has been brought against him by the Attorney General.

The Minority leader, Hon. Casel Ato Forson made this known when he delivered a speech congratulating the re-elected MP during the swearing in ceremony on Tuesday 4th July, 2023.

” Mr. speaker, i wish to serve notice that the entire minority group will accompany our colleague today and any other day that he is to appear in court.l Mr. speaker, we are solidarising with our colleague and we will not participate in the business of the house anytime our colleague is in court and we will be withdrawing from the chamber after this ceremony if the court processes indeed happens today.”

Hon. Ato Forson warned that it will cease to cooperate with government if the persecution of its members continues.” Mr, speaker, amidst persecution, cooperation suffers. i urge the government to listen to the people of Assin North and do the right thing.”

Meanwhile, the Majority Group in Parliament staged a walkout during the swearing in ceremony of Hon. James Gyakye Quayson.
