Bawku: The Shooting of Persons Very Close to the Police Station in Recent times is Becoming Alarming: Bawku Naba.

The Paramount Chief of the Kusag Traditional Area, Zugraan, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, recounting few shooting incidents in Bawku near the police station, expressed concerns over the recent shooting and killings of Persons in the Bawku township and especially very close to the Bawku police station.

” The shooting of persons very close to the police station in recent times is one too many and is becoming alarming. For instance, in August last year, a carpenter Teiku Jeitu (Ewe) was shot dead at the Timber Market, about 100 meters away from the police station. On 7th February, 2023, two Kusasi men, Salifu Tangnaba aKa “June 4th” and Moro akudago were shot nd killed about 50 metres away from the forecourt of the police station. The Immigration officers were also shot about 100 metres away from the same police station.

The Zuguraan wondered why a place that is supposed to be a safe zone for the public has rather become a place for shooting and killings.

“Why is the police station that is supposed to be a safe security zone for the public becoming otherwise?”

The the Bawku Naba singled out a social media commentator , Naa Tampuri, for his pronouncements on social media and called on the security services to arrest him.

“We also wish to draw the attention of social media commentators, especially one Naa Tampuri for his pronouncement on social media. We call on the security to apprehend him to find out the powers he has to broadly make such pronouncement on social media.”

The King of Kusag, in a press release also called the attention of media regulators to regulate the activities of two radio stations, Gumah FM and Bawku Fm and band them from discussing Bawku issues for allowing some persons to use their medium to carryout activities that are inimical to the peace and security of the area.

” There are two radio stations in Bawku township, Gumah FM and Bawku Fm that often allow their space for some individuals to carry out activities that are inimical to the peace and security. We strongly recommend that these stations be regulated in their programmes. For instance, they could be banned from discussing issues of Bawku.”

The traditional council has disassociated itself from social media post that said ” We Kusasis Are Ready for any Security Agency that Will Mess Around With Us.” And accuses the originators of attempts to create disaffection of the security towards the Kusasis.

” Our attention was drawn to social media post yesterday captioned “WE KUSASIS ARE READY FOR ANY SECURITY AGENCY THAT Will MESS AROUND WITH US.” We consider this as a calculated attempt to by our detractors to create disaffection of the security towards Kusasis. We wish to disassociate ourselves from the said post.
