Dr. Rainer Akumperigya Withraws from Bongo NDC Primaries.

A parliamentary candidate aspirant of the National Democratic Congress in the Bongo Constituency, Dr. Rainer Akumperigya has announced his decision to redraw from the NDC Primaries slated for 13th May, 2023 to elect a parliamentary candidate to contest in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

The legal practioner and law lecturer at GIMPA who contested the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Edward Bawa in 2019 and lost, picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming primaries among other contestants but unexpectedly announced on Tuesday night his decision not to contest the primaries again.

“The campaign team for Dr. Rainer Akumperigya wishes to notify its decision not to file to contest the NDC Parliamentary primaries for the Bongo Constituency. This difficult decision was reached after wide and sufficient consultations. In the circumstances, all activities to get Dr. Akumperigya elected as Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency in 2024 is hereby suspended.”

Dr. Rainer thanked all his organisers and supporters and wished the remaining contestants the best of luck.
“We wish to thank the dedicated grassroots organizers whose work made us a major contender in the Bongo Parliamentary race. We are also immensely grateful for the material support and pledges we received from individuals and entities.”

“We convey our best wishes to all candidates and hope that their campaigns are conducted in a manner that is civil and in accord with the social democratic values of our party.”
It is unclear what might have triggered this sudden change of decision.
