Assembly spends over GH¢700, 000 on Doba-Kandiga conflict

The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region has spent over GH¢ 700,000.00 between April 2020 and September 2021 to manage the Doba-Kandiga conflict.

The Chairman of the Regional Peace Council, Alhaji Sumaila Issaka  who disclosed this at the homecoming event of sons and daughters of the Mirigu Traditional Area, said poverty and lack of development were their enemies and not their neighbours.

He said the amount could have been channelled into development projects in the Municipality to the benefit of all residents, and stressed on the need for the two factions to remain peaceful.

Alhaji Issaka said the conflict between the two communities claimed several lives and properties, noting that “Violent conflict takes resources away from development.”

Naba Anthony Anonsona Abisa Atasige III, Paramount Chief of the Mirigu Traditional Area, reiterated the need for the two communities to embrace peace for development.
