Unresolved Boundaries Dispute Between Zuarungu and Talensi District is a Threat to Peace: Zuarungu Naba

The Paramount Chief of the Zuarungu Traditional Area, Naba Bilia Maletinga III, has called on stakeholders and government to find an amicable solution to the land boundaries dispute between the Zuarungu Traditional Area and the Talensi Traditional District to prevent the re-eruption of unnecessary and preventable violence that claim lives.

speaking at the 21st N’daakoya Festival of the Chief and people of the Zuarungu Traditional Area at the Catholic Park in Zuarungu on Sunday, 17th December, 2022, Naba Bilia Maletinga III said Zuarungu paramountcy stands next to none as custodial to peaceful growth however, the unresolved land boundary dispute could mare the peaceful coexistence between his traditional area and the Talensi District. “The paramountcy is placed second to none as custodial to our peaceful growth.”

“Traditionally, Zuarungu shares boundaries with her Talensi neighbours at the East. A claim by the Eastern neighbours as custodians of Zuarungu lands leaves much to be desired and places the peaceful coexistence of the people in Jeopardy. “

Naba Bilia Maletinga said government after creating the the talensi District and the Bolga East District, failed to properly demarcate the boundaries between the two districts. An anomaly, he said keeps creating anxiety and is a potential conflict for the two districts.

” Politically, Naba Chairman, government created a hanging District for us if I may put it, and have failed to properly demarcate the boundaries between the Bolgatanga East and the Talensi District. I wish to make it clear to you that this anomaly since the creation of the new district in 2004, keeps creating anxiety day in ,day out, and is a potential conflict for the two districts.”

He therefore appealled on government to come clean about the rightful boundaries of the Bolgatanga East District and the Talensi District to curtail the eminent potential re-eruption of conflict between the two districts

“I appeal to the Government through the Regional Minister to come clean about the rightful boundaries of the Bolgatanga East District, especially with the Talensi District to curtail the eminent re-eruption of the unnecessary and preventable violence that claim lives.”

Naba Asigri Bewong, the Paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area, who was the chairman of the celebrations, called on government to urgently find solution to the boundaries dispute to forestall the eminent Conflict.

” I have heard the Paramount Chief mention the issue of the boundaries dispute with her neighbours. I wish to appeal to government to find a lasting solution to the dispute to prevent any eminent Conflict that can affect the peaceful coexistence of the two groups.”
