Most women in Ghana get pregnant by mistake

More than half of the Pregnancies in Ghana are unintended according to the Ghana Health Services.

According to a report from the Ghana Health Service about 53 percent of reported pregnancies were not borne out of the wishes of parents to procreate.

This information was made known by the Upper East Regional Health Directorate at the lunch of a ” zero tolerance for premarital deaths due to unsafe abortion” campaign.

The report further revealed that out of about 1.4 million pregnancies recorded in 2017 only 47 percent of that number were planned.

Unfortunately, eight percent of the women who planned to add to the human race were lost to miscarriages.

Meanwhile, 23 per cent out of the 53 per cent of unintended pregnancies were aborted, while seven per cent were miscarriages.

As a result of this worrying trend of terminating pregnancies, the Upper East Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Dzotsi on the 21st of June, 2022 marshalled his men and women of the health fraternity to fight this canker of unsafe abortions in the region.
