Tindaama Done: A Community that Walk 3KM to Fetch Water, Has No Electricity, School,Health Centre and No Access Road.

Located in the Kasena Nankana East District of the Upper East Region of Ghana, Atiyoore Tindaama Done is among the many communities in the Upper East Region that has been disadvantaged and denied access to basic social amenities.

The Community with a population of over 200 who are predominantly farmers, have no source of portable drinking water. Their only source of water which is a hand dug borehole, dried up many years ago leaving them with no option but to walk about 3Km to a nearby school, Atiyoorom Basic School to fetch water.

In case there is a breakdown of the school borehole, the community turn to the stream which is another 3Km to fetch water for household use.

In an era where kerosene is hardly sold at most fuel stations, the community see the scarce commodity as their priceless fuel.

The Community rely on kerosene and lanterns to make visibility possible in their hamlets in the night. They have no electricity and no single electricity pole can be found in the community. Those with mobile phones also walk long distances to neighbouring communities to charge them. The whole area in the night is scary because it is always engulfed with total darkness except in their hamlets.

The Community also lack health facility, school, and access road. Mother’s and the sick walk the same Km to a health facility built by the contributions of all members of Atiyoorom and adjoining Communities, to access health service.

School children also walk the same distance to attend school everyday.
