” in the last quarter of 2021,there was renewed escalation of the regrettable enduring conflict in Bawku.”

” This has led to the loss of able and productive lives and valuable property, and stalled economic activities, and deprived several school children of an opportunity to pursue their future dreams”

The House of Chiefs said this sad development has informed their decision to condem the senseless criminal acts in the area.

“It is from this background that the Chief’s of the region wish to condem in no uncertain terms these senseless and morally depraved criminal acts.”

The Regional House of Chief’s also expressed concern that a once buoyant and busy commercial of the region has been reduced to a conflict Zone.

“It is saddening to note that since these clasehes in Bawku in 1983,1984, and 1985, all has not been well with the inhabitants of this growing township. The clashes have transformed, over the years into a war of attrition rather than an action to settle a chieftancy dispute.”

The eminent Chiefs of the Upper East Region have appealed to everyone fueling the conflict to desist from it and called on the security forces to deal with some youth on the wanted list of the police.

“Information available to tje House indicate that some identified youth are on the wanted list of the security services in connection with the several criminal incidents in Bawku. We urge the police to expedite their investigations and bring whoever is guilty of the breaches of the law to speedy prosecution. “
