Do Not Associate Us With the Comments By Bishop Ayensu- Methodist Church.

The Methodist Church of Ghana has disassociated itself from recent comments made by the former Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Methodist Dioces and appealed to the media not to draw its name into the alledged comments made by him.

Mr. Solomon Ayensu during a presentation at the 25th annual synod of the obuasi dioces , attacked the former president, John Dramani for his statement at his recent presentation to the cancel the E-Levy

Bishop Ayensu described the pronouncement by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader as backward and an attempt to sway voters.

““A leading opposition party says this government has been borrowing to fund projects. But it [the government] has been strategic this time to introduce this homegrown policy to build our nation. So if someone says he will repeal this law when he wins power then such a person will not even win power to abort it.

“If the E-levy is a good policy why will you abolish it? Such people can’t even do it because history keeps guiding us. Such comments usually end up as a political talk and deceit,” he added.

The comments by the current superintendent Bishop of the Amakom Church of the Methodist church has attracted widespread condemnation from members of the opposition National Democratic Congress and some neutrals.

The Methodist Church Ghana in a statement said the comments made by Bishop Solomon Ayensu are solely his view and that it does not represent the Church.

“We appeal to our noble friends of the media not to draw the name of the Methodist church Ghana into the alledged statements by the former Bishop and currently superintendent minister of the the Amokom circuit of the Kumasi Dioces “

The church concluded that the Methodist church is unaligned to any political party and that comments made by its members and ministers cannot be the position of the church.

“The Methodist church Ghana remains unaligned to any political party. While ministers and members may make comments on their individual basis as individual citizens of Ghana, that cannot be taken as the position of the church.”
