Red Cross and TEERE to Build 1000 Houses For Disaster Victims.

The Ghana Red Cross Society of Ghana in collaboration with TEERE , a Non Governmental Organisation in the Upper East Region ,under the Safe Housing Project will provide about 1,000 housing units to rainstorm disaster survivors in the Upper East Region.

This was disclosed by Mr. Paul Pidimniba Wooma, the Regional Director of the GRCS to the Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Yakubu when officials of the GRCS and TEERE called on him in his office on Friday, 6th May,2022.

Mr. Paul Pidimniba Wooma, told the Minister that the Housing project was aimed at supporting disaster survivors and the vulnerable whose houses have been destroyed in torrential rains over the years.

Mr. Paul disclosed that the project is estimated to cost about GHc41,000,000.00, which will be realized through fund raising activities.

Receiving the news , the Hon. Yakubu noted that as a result of climate change and the destruction of the little vegetation coupled with heavy rains storms had destroyed people’s houses and rendered them homeless over the years.

Hon. Yakubu noted that the geographical location of the Upper East to the Sahel Regions, and the inadequate trees in the region to serve as wind break, partly accounted for the annual rainstorm disasters which usually distroy long time investments of property owners.

Mr. Wooma said a humanitarian forum would be launched next week in the region to marshal forces towards the realization of the project.

Hon. Stephen Yakubu hailed the initiative by the GRCS and TEERE and promised the team of his support to work effectively and assiduously to improve on the housing conditions of the people.

He urged the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Region to give them the necessary support to bring relief to the affected victims.
