Bawku: Teachers flee as guns boom

The Bawku Municipal Education Directorate has disclosed that more teachers are fleeing the volatile municipality following the renewed chieftaincy gun battle between Kusasis and Mamprusis. Mr. George Ayeriga Azeriga stated that most of the teachers are dropping into his office demanding our-of-district transfers.

 “I have done not less than 50 teachers last week and more are yet to bring their letters for them to be send on transfers. We have had teachers  who have come asking to be send to other schools and we have done considered that and that is exactly what we are doing, for me security is paramount and if there are genuine fears that you cannot go to certain schools, we will not hesitate to take you to a school where you  think you are safe”.

He therefore appealed to all stakeholders to embrace peace because education is Cardinal and if they do not live as brothers and sisters, they will not get the best of education for their children and that the future of Bawku relies on the willingness to live at peace to support the education of their children.

some parents who spoke to word news have expressed mixed feelings about the reopening of basic schools in the Bawku municipalities. some of the parents are of the view that they can only take their wards to schools that is safe.  

Mrs. Issifu Martha, a hairdresser who stays around the Bawku highways says she will take her children schools “where am staying. my children can go to school there is there is no problem but if she was staying in town depending on the tribe, if the person thinks that if the child will go to school he/she will not have problem, the children can go but if you know that if my child enter there, the child will not come out I won’t allow my child to go “ she fumes

Mrs Ayishetu Jambeidu Wuni told word news that she has 12 children including that of his brother, who are attending teacher Leetoh school behind the court complex and she has prevented all the children from attending classes. “I have 12 children plus my brother’s children. they are all attending teacher Leetoh school behind the court premises, we have sacked all our children, all of us sacked our children, me, my child won’t  go to that school because I can’t go there to take my child for some animals to kill me” she bemoaned .
