A Bolgatanga Magistrate court has remanded into police custody, Boat Moabil who is currently on  trial for rape. The 28-year-old suspect has been accused of raping a final year student of the Adaboya Junior High School in the bongo District of the Upper East Region.

On his second appearance before the court, he was remanded into police as police prosecutors requested for more time to investigate as it awaits the advice from the attorney general department.

Moabil’s lawyer told word news that the charged preferred on his client is a first-degree felony case, but was optimistic that his client would have the opportunity of telling his side of the case when trial-proper begins.

A bail request by his lawyer – Richard Adazaabda was denied as the presiding judge, David Dakurigu Sebiyan spoke of his inability in granting the bail request.

The miner is said to have raped the victim on September 6, 2021 and went into hiding until his arrest on November 10, 2021. He is to re-appear before the court on November 29.
