Honour Founders’ by Giving Citizens Prosperity- PPP

The Progressive People’s Party has called on the government of Ghana to honour the founders of Ghana by giving citizens prosperity. The party in a press release celebrating the founders of Ghana as part of events making the founders day celebration said the vision of the founders of the country had a vision to create a country that offers its citizens liberty and prosperity-this vision they say has eluded the majority of the citizens of Ghana.

“It was the vision of our Founders to create a country that offers its citizens liberty and prosperity. It is however uninspiring to note that this prosperity has eluded the majority of the citizens.”

The PPP said the over 60 years existence of the country does not measure up to the living standards aspirations of many Ghanaians “The over six decades of Ghana’s existence sadly does not measure up to the living standards aspiration of many Ghanaians. The man who toiled and led our country to independence, Kwame Nkrumah, would be sad to see the state of the Nation he sacrificed a lot for. “

The party has therefore called on the NPP government to fix the country’s legal regime to make government effective , efficient ,less corrupt and accountable to the people.

Honour founders’ by giving citizens prosperity- PPP

The Progressive People’s party salutes the founders of Ghana on this day as we observe their contributions to the creation of the Nation.

It was the vision of our Founders to create a country that offers its citizens liberty and prosperity. It is however uninspiring to note that this prosperity has eluded the majority of the citizens.

The over six decades of Ghana’s existence sadly does not measure up to the living standards aspiration of many Ghanaians. The man who toiled and led our country to independence, Kwame Nkrumah, would be sad to see the state of the Nation he sacrificed a lot for.

We wish to use this day to reiterate the need to fix the country’s legal regime in order to make government effective, efficient, less corrupt and accountable to the people.

To this end, we are reminding the President and Parliament that if they have the prosperity of the people at heart, then they must take steps to do the following to ensure that the direction of the state is brought in line with the aspirations of the people.

1. Amend the constitution to prevent the Legislature from being part of the executive in anyway. A total separation of powers will empower parliament to scrutinise the executive better, reduce corruption and deliver personal freedoms.

2. De politicize prosecution by ensuring that the Ministry of Justice is separate from the Office of the Attorney General. Whilst we can have a Minister of Justice as government’s legal advisor and lawyer, we need an independent prosecutor whose tenure of office is not necessarily linked to the political office of the president and who can have the independence to prosecute anyone without political considerations.

3. Ensure the Election of MMDCEs and all Assembly members to make them accountable to the people and development oriented in their actions and thinking.

To this end, we are asking government to honor our Founders by fine tuning our constitution.

Signed

Felix Mantey

Director of Communications
