21-year-old police recruit adjudged best.

Hannah Arthur, a 21-year-old police recruit of the Pwalugu Police Public Safety Training School in the Upper East Region was over the weekend adjudged the best national female police recruit at a police passing-out ceremony.

She was awarded for her outstanding performance during her stay at the training camp. She managed to beat her colleagues recruits to snatch the national award.


She came fourth in a national standardized examination conducted for 2,009 graduands in the country, making her the overall best female recruit, whiles Constable Wonder Segbedzi took home the overall best recruit award.


Constable Hannah Arthur bagged home a laptop computer, souvenirs from Fidelity Bank Ghana, piece of cloth as well as a cash amount of 2,000 Ghana Cedis.

A total of 581 recruits graduated from the Pwalugu Police Public Safety Training School with Ebenezer Nkrumah, winning the local best graduating recruit portfolio. He received a laptop computer,a smock as well as souvenirs from Fidelity Bank Ghana.


Director General in-charge of Welfare at the Ghana Police Service, COP Mame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who represented the Inspector General of police at the ceremony, expressed her joy over the excellent exhibition of Constable Hannah.

‘My speech will not be complete without acknowledging and congratulating the Police Woman Recruit Hannah Arthur for her outstanding performance and adjudged as the Best Female Recruit. On behave female Police Officers, I say ‘Ayekoo’ to you and heartiest congratulations Hannah! Never relent in your endeavors and continue to make yourself, female police Officers and your family proud.” “Don’t be carried away over this award”. She added.

She admonished the recruits to be discipline at the field.

“Don’t just be part of the added numbers, but contribute towards achieving results in our core mandate”. She advised.


COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah who is also the leader of the association of female police officers noted that the police service is committed to meeting the forty (40%) United Nation’s recommended gender parity ratio.

The former director general of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana police service also cautioned the recruits against unhealthy behavior in the service.

”Bear in mind that it is not a sanctuary to make unjustified wealth. Therefore, desist from corrupt practices which have the tendency to bring the image of the service into disrepute. Never forget the motto of the service ‘’ Service with Integrity’’. She reminded them.


The Upper East Regional minister, Hon Stephen Yakubu on his part called for more dedicated men and women in the police service so as to combat the increasing crime rate in the country.

“Dear grandaunts, you have join the Ghana Police Service at a time our country needs you the more as you all know the major challenges facing our society today such as armed robbery, smuggling, human trafficking and all sort of indiscipline on our roads. I am confident that you will discharge your duties accordingly as professionals”.

He advised them to ‘’Discharge your duties with boldness, integrity and loyalty. Temptations may come your way but self-control and discipline is all you have been taught in your profession”.

The pwalugu police training school is currently the largest police training outfit in the country.
The 2020 Global Peace Index Report compiled by the Institute of Economics and Peace ranked Ghana as the third most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa after Mauritius and Botswana.
