Journalist Writes Smiles on Widows and Orphans: Calls on the Public to Help the Needy

At least five widows including a phisically challenged women have received some food items and toiletries from a broadcast Journalist with Word FM, a Bolgatanga base Radio station, Simon Agana Blessing.

The host of the Word Community Watch Show who doubles as the Head of Programs at Word Fm located in the Bolga East district of the Upper East region, donated the items to the widow and orphan’s movement in Bolgatanga on Friday for onwards distribution to the widows.

The  items which included bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, a box of key soap and bags of used clothing were given to the widows selected from different communities within the Upper East region by the Widows and Orphans Movement – Bolga

Madam Fati Abigail Abddulai, the head of the widows and orphan’s movement expressed appreciation on behalf of the woman to Mr. Agana for his kind gesture.

She equally used the opportunity to appeal to everyone to stretch a hand to the poor and needy society in whatever way they can. ” we receive calls everyday from these women for various assistance and key among them is food. I appeal to the public to come to the aid of theses women in any form possible”

Speaking to colleague journalist in an interview after the donation Mr. Agana said the idea to touch someone’s life visited him somewhere in December 2020, so he decided to pull some resources together to make the donation.

‘’Somewhere in December it occurred to me that I needed to distribute some used clothing to some people so I got the used cloths but  who to distribute it to was a challenge, so I just relaxed, and somewhere last month it dawn on me again to do it, but I thought that it would be unwise to distribute just the use cloth alone, so i gathered small money to buy the food items in addition for our mothers. All I have done is coming out of my pocket, my little salary. I decided to sacrifice my small salary to put a smile on these faces because it is the good cause and that is what we have been commanded to do.’’

It is Mr. Agana’s prayer that this singular gesture of his would inspire others to extend a helping hand to the less privileged in society.

‘’I want to set an example, that regardless of wherever we are, let’s extend our hands to the many who are sleeping without food. when I had to sleep without food was about twenty years ago and it shouldn’t be happening at this time; there are many of us who are in a better position to be able to feed people lets do it because it is good. ‘’

Like olive twist, ‘’ the request for more’’ was the plea of these women and orphans, and Mr. Agana understood it better from the many smiles his ‘widow’s mite’ kept on the faces of these women. He has therefore promises to collaborate with friends and colleagues to make it bigger next time.

‘’It may be the first time I have started this and haven’t seen the smiles on these faces, it is a promise that God willing next year we will come back possibly bigger than this. I will sell the idea to colleagues who think alike and next year when we come here, It  won’t be the only me  coming to present this; we will be many and  possibly we would be presenting something better. ‘’
