The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga East and Minister of State at the Attorney General’s Department, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has stated that he initially did not agree withssS Bolgatanga East District Concerned Youth Group when they demonstrated over the Bolgatanga Bawku Pulmakon road project.

According to him, when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in power for eight years, there were no demonstrations regarding the road. However, after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took over government, within just a little over a year, there has been a demonstration.
Dr. Ayine explained that after being away from home for about three months, he returned and passed through the road in his car. He said that although he still hoped the demonstration would not be politicised, he could now understand the point the demonstrators were making.
The MP said they will take steps to fix the road. He noted that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama promised that the Bolgatanga Bawku Pulmakon road would be constructed, and therefore government would ensure the project is delivered. He also mentioned that the affected stretch is part of the wider road project.
Dr. Ayine added that they will not wait for the contractor to return to complete the entire long stretch before fixing the specific portion causing hardship.
Instead, he said they will work within the short term to improve the area so that commuters, pedestrians, and motor riders will not continue to suffer daily on the road.He narrated that during his travel on the road, he reached a particular point where he saw a woman riding a motorbike while carrying a baby.
He said the woman tried to cover the baby’s head with cloth to protect the child from dust, but the wind was too strong and the baby still became exposed an experience he described as unacceptable and one that motivated efforts to address the problem.
