The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Donatus Atanga Akamugri, has said President John Dramani Mahama plans to scale up GH B-Lord Farms at Bongo-Akunduo, a community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, into the integrated poultry transformation under the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development (24H+) Programme.
Mr. Akamugri made the statement during a visit to GH B-Lord Farms, where he observed the initiative of young farmer Mr. Adams Bukari, who is into the rearing of guinea fowls, poultry birds, sheep, and goats.
Mr. Akamugri, along with the Regional Deputy Chief Imam, informed the President about the project and requested support for the farm under either the Feed Ghana programme or the 24-hour economy initiative. Mr. Akamugri said the President described the idea as honourable after seeing pictures of the farm.
He explained that his visit was to inspect the facility, understand the concept and assess how it could be incorporated into the 24-hour economy agenda.
Mr. Akamugri noted that he discussed the project with Dr. Augustus Goosie Tanoh, the national coordinator of the 24-hour economy, and Senior Presidential Adviser, overall lead coordinator for the flagship economic programme under the Office of the President.
According to Mr. Akamugri, government has a policy for poultry under the 24-hour economy, made up of two main projects.
He said the first phase involves the anchor programme, which supports farmers financially to expand their production and also offers training to help them manage their birds properly.
He stated that this phase is currently being implemented in the southern sector.He added that the second phase focuses on poultry transformation,which seeks to shift from ordinary poultry production to integrated poultry systems, where agriculture and poultry production operate side by side.
Mr. Akamugri said government intends to scale up GH B-Lord Farms Bongo-Akunduo, which currently includes,3,723 guinea fowls,2,300 poultry birds,50 sheep27 goats.
He said as the farm expands with financial support, it will produce more guinea fowls (including keets), increase egg production, and train more people on how to rear guinea fowls and poultry, manage feeds, and use farm waste as organic fertilizer to support production under the Feed Ghana programme.
He further noted that the initiative will include support to farmers who will produce feed for the poultry, enabling the birds to produce more eggs.
He said the eggs will not be meant only for consumptionthey can also be used for manufacturing purposes, including in some pharmaceutical-related applications.
Speaking exclusively to the media, Mr. Adams Bukari, General Manager of GH B-Lord Farms Bongo-Akunduo, said he started the farm in December 2025 and has since produced many guinea fowls and poultry birds, including eggs. He confirmed the current livestock numbers as,3,723 guinea fowls,2,300 poultry birds,50 sheep,27 goats.
Mr. Bukari said people visit the farm daily to obtain poultry eggs, but he noted that while demand is high, egg and bird production have been limited by the current size of his farm.
He expressed gratitude to President Mahama for plans to scale up the farm and support him to expand his operations, saying it will benefit youth and residents across the 15 districts of the Upper East Region.He encouraged young people to venture into poultry and guinea fowl rearing, as well as ruminant production, and to apply organic fertilizer from their farms to improve yields.
He invited interested farmers to visit his farm for more information and access to organic fertilizer.
