The Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI)in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region has begun a three-day demonstration at the site of Cardinal Namdini Mining.
The demonstration, which started on Friday, 15th May 2026, is aimed at demanding the removal of Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Adusei, an officer responsible for Community and Social Responsibility for Cardinal Namdini Shandong Mining Limited in the Talensi District.Addressing the media, Mr. Gilbert Bright Landolba, General Secretary of TAMCI, said the demonstration is intended to address what the group describes as harmful actions by Mr. Adusei, which they claim have caused divisions among community members.
Mr. Landolba explained that community members can no longer meet their chiefs to discuss issues affecting them, adding that TAMCI believes the situation has become worse rather than better.
According to TAMCI, the mining company has ticked their concession and may be affecting many farms, but the company has allegedly failed to provide fair compensation and meaningful youth employment for the people in the affected area.He stated that the central issue remains the alleged conduct of Mr. Kofi Adusei, which TAMCI says has created conflict and misunderstanding among residents.Mr. Landolba further said the group began the demonstration with drumming and messages of protest at the mining site.
However, regional police, including officers from the Talensi District Police Command, later came to the site.He said the Regional Police Commander,DCOP John Ferguson Dzineku, sent a court injunction to TAMCI’s Chairman, Mr. Bismark Zumah via WhatsApp at about 10:00 pm on 14th May 2026. Mr. Zumah, according to TAMCI, could not open the message immediately.
The following day, Mr. Zumah was active on WhatsApp, but by then, DCOP John Ferguson arrived at the demonstration grounds and informed them that their meeting was illegal due to the injunction.
As a result, Mr. Landolba said the demonstrators were dispersed, which prevented the three-day demonstration from continuing.DCOP John Ferguson Dzineku told the protesters that while they have the right to demonstrate, citizens also have the right to move freely, and leadership expectations must be followed.
He emphasized that demonstrations must be done within the confines of the law and urged the youth to address their concerns respectfully and legally.
Speaking to the police commander, Mr. Charles Boazor said the number of youth present would have been larger, but that the injunction affected participation. He added that women were the ones who came to block the road.
Mr. Boazor said TAMCI has many grievances and is preparing a petition to the President through the Regional Minister, and that they would share a copy with the police commander.He accused the company of polluting the land with dangerous chemicals, and claimed the EPA has been informed and that penalties have been paid, but the company allegedly continues its actions.
Mr. Boazor also alleged that the company is stealing a large percentage of the gold from Ghana, citing what he said are claims on their posters.
He further alleged that there has been no crop compensation and that youth employed by the company are reportedly paid informally without what they describe as proper documentation such as appointment letters.
He said TAMCI insists on fairness, adding that the group will monitor how the company responds to their demands.
