Miss Rosina Anamah, a 20-year-old Senior High School graduate and the winner of the 2025 Face of Kologo beauty competition, has announced her commitment to launching a vigorous campaign against the rising incidence of teenage pregnancies in her community. The competition is organized annually by the paramount chief of the Kologo Traditional Area, Naba Tandegrewunkugre Clifford Abagna Asobayire V.

In an exclusive interview with Word News after her victory, Miss Anamah, who hails from the Biu community—a suburb of the Kologo Traditional Area in the Kassena Nankana Municipality—expressed her concern over the impact of teenage pregnancy on young girls in her community. She lamented that many teenagers drop out of school after becoming pregnant, often facing rejection from their partners and families. Those forced into early marriages frequently feel dejected due to the poverty of the families they marry into.

“And my project is on teenage pregnancy. I’d like to help my community, especially the youth, to prevent and also reduce teenage pregnancy. When you talk about a community like this, a lot of young girls have been getting pregnant. Some of them drop out of school. Ten-year-olds from junior high should not be pregnant. I just feel like helping them so I can develop the community. If I get enough funds, I will not only help the youth in my community but also reach out to nearby communities to discuss the causes and effects of teenage pregnancy and how to reduce it.

In my community, the number of unmarried girls is small, but almost all the girls get married, and many have given birth. They face numerous challenges, such as unemployment and food insecurity. The boys who impregnated them often refuse to marry them, leaving the girls to rely on their parents, who may not have enough resources to support them,” she lamented.

In a separate interview, Naba Tandegrewunkugre Clifford Abagna Asobayire V noted that since ascending to the throne, he has recognized the havoc wreaked by teenage pregnancies in his Traditional Area. He introduced initiatives to empower young girls as advocates against the rising cases of teenage pregnancies and early marriages, a vision that inspired the Face of Kologo competition to educate young people about culture and tradition.

“When I was installed as the paramount chief, I realized there were ongoing problems regarding girl child education in my community. I felt compelled to ensure that girls could attend school without facing pregnancy, dropping out, or early marriages. To address this, I initiated the Miss Kologo competition, allowing young women to participate in programs that showcase their talents in our culture, language, cooking, music, and other regional traditions,” Tandegrewunkugre V stated.
He added that since the program’s inception, cases of teenage pregnancies and early marriages have been declining due to its positive impact. Naba noted that prominent individuals from the Kologo Traditional Area and beyond have provided financial support to help him acquire resources like a motorbike, freezer, television set, and cash to support the young girls participating in the competition. Notable supporters include Franklin Atugyire, Dr. Norbert Atodio, and many others who have contributed to the Face of Kologo beauty pageant.
