The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party members in Winkogo, Talensi constituency of the Upper East Region, not to elect the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Mr. Robert Ayinenaba Alibo, over the NDC’s candidate, Daniel Dung Mahama. He emphasized that Winkogo has been a stronghold for the NDC since 1992.

Speaking at the launch of Daniel Dung Mahama’s campaign in Winkogo, Asiedu Nketia pleaded with the people not to create any barriers between Talensi and President John Dramani Mahama’s office in the upcoming elections on December 7, 2024. He highlighted the loyalty of Winkogo residents to the NDC and called for a representative from their community to serve in Parliament rather than one from the NPP.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia addressing party faithful during the campaign launched in Winkogo.

“I beg you, don’t put any elephant between Talensi and President John Dramani Mahama’s office, vote for the umbrella who can lead umbrella people to the umbrella president. The support Winkogo has given to NDC in the future, you deserve to produce an NDC MP from the Winkogo zone yourself, but if you are not careful and now shift, nobody will trust you, and it will be difficult for you to project anybody from your zone into prominence within the party. So I’m urging you to stay focused; you began with NDC, let us end with NDC, and then you get what you deserve from NDC,” he stated.

Asiedu Nketia criticized Alibo, stating that he is “a good candidate who is lost and has found himself in a wrong political party,” and suggested that the only viable path for Alibo to Parliament would be through the NDC. He asserted that President Mahama is “not big enough to contain an opposition New Patriotic Party member of Parliament in the next John Dramani Mahama regime.”

During his address, Mr Daniel Dung Mahama promised that if elected alongside John Dramani Mahama, he would construct a market for Winkogo and work on the ring road project to improve connectivity between the Nabdam and Talensi constituencies. He also pledged to enhance the local healthcare system and revive an abandoned ICT facility initiated during Mahama’s previous administration.

He claimed that over the past eight years, the Talensi constituency has not received its fair share of national development in terms of roads, education, and infrastructure. He emphasized that it was the NDC that had previously delivered on these fronts and urged voters to support the party to continue its good work.
