Mr Edward Adeti Media Without Borders

Edward Adeti, a seasoned journalist with Media Without Borders based in the Upper East Region of Ghana, has won the titles of Overall Journalist and Best Investigative Journalist of the Year at the 28th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards ceremony. He is the first-ever journalist based in the Upper East Region to have won such awards.

Mr Adeti has conducted numerous impactful investigations over the years, including a notable bribery scandal involving a Minister of State at the Presidency, Rockson Bukari, and a High Court Judge Justice Jacob Boon. In another investigative piece captioned “Cash for Justice”, Mr Adeti exposed bribery and extortion scandals in the Attorney-General’s Department. The piece saw a senior state attorney, Emmanuel Lawrence Otoo’Boison, dismissed by the government. His latest investigation, titled “Stealing from the Sick,” focused on the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where medicines provided by government were stolen on a regular basis.

This achievement highlights Mr Adeti’s dedication and influence in the field of journalism. Such recognitions not only celebrate individual excellence but also inspire others in the profession.

In an exclusive interview with Word News, Mr Adeti expressed that his award serves as a significant source of motivation and inspiration for journalists based in northern Ghana. He emphasized that a journalist’s location does not define their capabilities; rather, it is their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to professionalism that matter.

“This award can inspire journalists in northern Ghana to understand that their location is not what truly counts, but their dedication,” Adeti noted.

He further emphasized the need for fearless journalists in Ghana and across Africa—those who are unafraid of rejection, hunger, or even the threat of imprisonment, and who are willing to stand up for the truth, regardless of the consequences.

“Ghana and Africa need more journalists who are not afraid of hunger, rejection, or being labelled. We need journalists who are not afraid to speak the truth in the interest of society,” Adeti admonished.

He also commended the current GJA national executive members for their commitment, discernment, fairness, and genuine love for the profession and those who practise it.
