The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Dominic Ayine, has announced that he and his friends have contributed over $200,000 toward the completion of the Zuarungu library project. This initiative initially received full funding from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
Ayine stated, “When we lost power in 2016, they (NPP government) have refused to release funds to build the library for the youth. I’ve had to rise up to solicit funds from my friends, which amounted to $200,000, and which is equivalent to 3.5 million Ghana cedis.”
He further alleged that the NPP government has been sabotaging the library project and has pressured the GNPC not to release funds needed for its completion.
The library project began in 2014 with an estimated cost of 350,000 Ghana cedis. Speaking to constituents after successfully filing his nomination forms, Ayine emphasized the importance of community support, stating, “I have so far raised over $200,000, which is equivalent to 3.5 million Ghana cedis from friends of mine to enable me to complete the stalled library project.”
Ayine claimed that his opponents do not have the lobbying skills like him to lobby his friends to do things he has been doing for the constituency since his party, the NDC, lost power in 2016
