Armed Thugs Attack Radio Ada, Injure Staff and Destroy Equipments.

Armed thugs have attacked a private community radio station, Radio Ada(93.3) in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region, forcibly taking the Host of the mid-morning program off air and injuring him in the process.

The armed thugs also disconnected the connections to the equipments in the station, taking them off air in the process.

The unidentified armed men numbering about seven, were on mask and armed with a short pistol. They invaded the premises of the radio station about 11:43an on Thursday morning and attacked the host of the mid-morning program who was on air.

The men, according to sources from the station, were looking for Dameh Noah, the producer of a program on the Songhor Lagoon that has been leased to Electrochem to mine salt in the Ada lagoon in the Ada East District.

Mr. Dmeh Noah in a phone interview with Simon Agana, confirmed the attack on the station.

“ Yes its true that my station was attacked by some armed men who wielded a short pistol today Thursdays 13th January,2022 at about 11:43am.”

He said he was told that the men came to the station mainly to attack he, Noah and other members of the Songhor Lagoom radio team who have been championing the interest of the community against the extraction of the only resource in the community by a private company, Electrochem which belongs to Macdan.

“I was told they came to the station purposely for me and other members of the Songhor team but none of us were in the studio as at the time they came. They came to warn us to stop airing the program on radio.”

Mr. Noah said the bandits beat up the host of the station and destroyed some equipments of the station.

“They beat up the presenter, destroyed the studio equipments and shut down the radio station.”

The case has since been reported to the police in Ada. The presenter who was assaulted by the thugs has also been treated and discharged.

Ada radio is a local radio station that has operated for over 20 years in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region.
