The president of the Upper East Regional House chiefs Chiana Pio PE Detundini Adiali Ayagitam III has described as sad and unfortunate, the chronic chieftaincy conflicts in the Doba, Kandiaga and Bawku traditional areas. Speaking at the 4th celebration of the FAO festival, chiana Pio noted that “one issue that is causing a lot of worry to the chiefs and the people in the region is the persistent communal conflict in Bawku, Doba and Kandiaga communities. These conflicts need speedy resolution to enable the needed development to take place. we cannot continue to live with conflict in our region. I, therefore appeal to all in the conflict zones to see the need to allow law and order to prevail”.

The Doba-Kandiaga communal land conflict is said to have stalled economic and social activities in the two neighboring communities. Many has fled as dozens killed with property destroyed
He noted that the renewed Chieftaincy conflict between the Kusaasis and Mamprusi in Bawku has affected lives and property as it also ends up putting the Upper East Region in a bad mark.
The situation, according to the president of the Upper East Regional house of chiefs, has affected education and health greatly. last year’s preliminary reports on the malaria pilot program that is been carry out in the Kasena Nankana west District and the Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region experienced low turnout in the second and third doses schedule due to the conflict in the two communities.

The traditional ruler used the occasion to reiterates his call for a district. He also called on government to consider giving the yet-to-be created district and an airport for the people of Upper East Region . “one big issue that is central to the development and prosperity that we need, is self- governance. we have been agitating for a separate district for the west Zone for years now. Year after year, we keep repeating this request.
Unfortunately, nothing seems to be pointing to government blessing in respect of the request, as we celebrate this year FAO festival, we once again want to reiterate our request for the creation of a separate administration for the area”.
