UE/R: Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiɛsi Road Kept Under the Big Push Project — Clement Apaak

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South Constituency and Deputy Minister for Education, Mr. Clement Abas Apaak, witnessed the resumption of work on the Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiɛsi road on Thursday, 9 April 2026, at Gbedema in the Upper East Region.

Dr Clement Abas Apaak member  of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency

Mr Clement Abas Apaak, also announced that the Navrongo–Chuchuliga, Sandema–Wiaga to Wiɛsi–Fumbisi road forms part of the “Big Push.” He stated that, as far as their understanding is concerned, all major road projects both inherited and newly initiated are included under the Big Push agenda.

For emphasis, he confirmed this information with the Minister for Roads and Highways. When the 2025 mid-year budget made reference to the Big Push roads, it did not mention the road in full, and he therefore confronted the Minister regarding the inclusion of the project.

He explained that even though the Big Push is a new initiative, it is also meant to support and complete existing road projects that are already underway. Therefore, payment should not remain a major concern, because this road will also be funded through the Big Push programme.

Dr. Clement Abas Apaak noted on record that what has happened is known within the construction and road construction sector. He also highlighted that MyTurn Limited is among the top five local Ghanaian construction companies in terms of capacity and quality of work.

He further explained that previously, MyTurn Limited was not being paid for work already completed. Some of the works were difficult to proceed with and required sufficient resources to continue and complete the various segments that the contractor had already begun.

However, because the funds were not available to support the ongoing work, progress slowed, and the road began to deteriorate rapidly. This deterioration was not due to any lack of competence or expertise on the part of the contractor, but rather because resources were not provided to properly complete the work that had started in different sections.

Despite the challenges with payment processes, the works have resumed. The contractor is yet to provide timelines, but progress is ongoing.
This resumption is driven by goodwill and belief in the promise by President John Dramani Mahama ,even though payment processes are still not fully concluded, the contractor has chosen to continue in order to complete the project.

Speaking at the site, the MP said the road construction had been abandoned for some time, dating back to 2016, a situation that prompted youth in the area to demonstrate and call on government to fix the road.

Mr. Apaak noted that other roads in the constituency would also receive attention, but expressed satisfaction that the main road from Navrongo to Builsa South is finally receiving attention.

He said the road has remained a long-standing wish and prayer of the chiefs and people of Builsa South, who have endured daily travel over a dusty and rough route.

The Deputy Minister of Education also indicated that government chose to continue work on the same project that began in 2016, consistent with assurances made during President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 election campaign.

He said the administration’s decision would benefit the constituency and help address the challenges faced by residents.

Mr. Apaak added that it is expected the rehabilitation will progress from *Navrongo through Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiɛsi, reaching Gbedema. He said the contractors and site engineer indicated that work would also commence towards Fumbisi, with plans to open another site within the general area of the Fumbisi town enclave.

He described the visit as a “happy moment” for the people and urged all stakeholders to ensure the project continues to completion without further interruptions.

Mr Donald Yeribu program Manager of MyTurn Construction Limited.

Speaking exclusively to the media, the Program Manager of MyTurn Project Construction Limited , Mr. Donald Yeribu, stated that the project involves the rehabilitation of an entire stretch from *Navrongo to Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiɛsi. He said the current work at the Gbedema stretch involves the use of stabilised base material.

He explained that the contractor will strip the road surface, add gravel to stabilise the base, and then provide a firm finish with a bitumen surface, extending the work from Navrongo to Chuchuliga.Mr. Yeribu also identified funding as the main challenge that delayed the project. He said when the project began, payments were not forthcoming, which he noted slowed progress significantly.

He noted that for the continuity of support so the contractor can complete the road “once and for all,” to bring relief to residents who have suffered the poor road conditions for years.
