The Kassena-Nankana West District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has urged the management and staff of the Assembly to enhance interdepartmental collaboration for effective public service delivery and to expedite the execution of developmental projects. “Sanitation issues in the district should not be regarded solely as an environmental health concern; each department should consider how they can contribute,” the DCE stated.

He made these remarks at his inaugural staff durbar held on Friday at the Assembly’s conference hall, following his formal assumption of duty on May 5, 2025. Earlier, on May 9, he met with the Assembly’s Management, where heads of departments presented brief overviews of their mandates and related matters.

The DCE emphasized that the staff durbar provided an opportunity for him to meet all staff members, introduce himself, and listen to their insights on progressing the Assembly’s mission to develop the communities it serves.

Hon. Akurugo encouraged the staff to continue their hard work, acknowledging the resource constraints and challenges they face. He assured them of his commitment to fostering a motivated workforce and promised to discuss with the coordinating director ways to appreciate their efforts.

He highlighted that health, sanitation, education, and infrastructure would receive significant attention during his administration, stressing the importance of sanitation as a key performance indicator for Assemblies nationwide, as recently noted by President H.E. John Dramani Mahama. The DCE also announced that Management would soon inspect ongoing SOCO projects, warning that defaulting contractors would face repercussions, while the SOCO phase three cycle of projects would commence shortly.

Hon. Akurugo expressed gratitude to President Mahama for nominating him among other qualified candidates and pledged to represent the President effectively in Kassena-Nankana West. He commended the assembly members for their swift confirmation of his appointment, interpreting it as a validation of the President’s choice.

Mr Amadu Abubakari DCD

In his opening remarks, District Coordinating Director (DCD) Mr. Amadu Abubakari noted that resource flow to the Assembly has been suboptimal since 2020. He urged the government to enhance its efforts in this regard to promote the achievement of developmental goals. Mr. Amadu also called on department heads to mentor their staff adequately to ensure continuity in their absence and to actively participate in the Assembly’s budget preparation to ensure their departments’ needs are considered in resource allocation.
