ICOUR: Retired Managing Director’s Salary Halted Since December 2023; Now Relies on Company IGF, Says GAWU Chairman

The retired managing director of ICOUR, Dr. Benedict Bonaventure Aligebam, has not formally stepped down from his position despite his retirement. His salary has been halted since December 2023. Dr. Aligebam has refused to resign, even after a directive from former regional minister Stephen Yakubu in February 2024, which urged him to hand over responsibilities to the next senior officer. This request was reiterated in a letter from the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei Opare, dated September 12, 2024, but he has again declined to comply.

In an exclusive interview on the Word Community Watch show, Mr. Jibril Adams, the General Chairman of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), stated that Dr. Aligebam’s salary has been halted since December 2023. He now relies on the company’s Internal Generated Fund (IGF) for his livelihood. Adams expressed confusion over why Dr. Aligebam remains in his position despite receiving two official directives to vacate the office, emphasizing that union members are unsure of what is preventing his resignation.

When contacted by Word News for clarification on his continued tenure as managing director, Dr. Aligebam claimed that the ICOUR board had instructed him not to speak to the media. When pressed on why the same board that asked him to resign would also request his silence, he abruptly hung up the phone.
