Nabdam: ‘We’ve walked in the light of NDC for over 26 years with expectations unmet’― Kotintaab Chief

Naab Bileehsong La’anwont Namoog, Kotintaabig chief

The chief of Kotintaabig in the Nabdam District of Ghana’s Upper East Region, Naab Bileehsong La’anwont Namoog, Chief of the Kotintaab Traditional Area and member of the Sekoti Traditional Council, has stated that the people of the Nabdam Constituency have supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for over 26 years.

However, he said what they are witnessing does not match what they had hoped for.Speaking to the National Democratic Congress during Johnson Aseidu Nketia’s “thank-you tour” in the Nabdam Constituency, Naab Bileehsong La’anwont Namoog cited developments in the area.

He noted that the Yakoti Road, which had been in a poor state, was rehabilitated using the Member of Parliament’s personal resources, and that the people are benefiting from it today.

He also referenced the Nabdam parliamentary seat, explaining that while the seat was already held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC regained it by winning with a margin of about 3,000 votes.

He suggested that such electoral victories deserve recognition and encouragement.

The Kotintaab chief said, “I want to quote what our Bishop said: if you walk in the light, everything will be your worry. I think Nabdam has walked in the light of the NDC. We have committed to voting you for almost 26 years, but what we are getting from the NDC is not what we envisaged. We need you.”

He appealed to Johnson Aseidu Nketia to ensure that government supports the Asonge Road to improve the living conditions of the people and to boost their economic and social activities. He said the road project was a promise and expressed confidence in Aseidu Nketia because he is a “grassroots man.”The chief further stated that, as part of the thank you tour and in discussions with traditional authorities at the Sakoti Naba Palace, the chiefs and people had requested a ministerial slot** for Nabdam.

He added that in the next ministerial reshuffle, government should consider the Nabdam District.Naab Bileehsong La’anwont Namoog also called on government to complete the District Hospital (Agenda 111)project.

He said the NPP government started the project but later it was stalled and it was abandoned , which has negatively affected health service delivery in the district.According to him, most residents are farmers, and they rely heavily on farming activities. He noted that the One Village, One Dam” initiative introduced by the NPP government had not achieved the desired success.

Therefore, he urged the NDC leadership especially the NDC national chairman to support the district with three dams to sustain farming during the dry seasonThe National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketia, said his visit to Nabdam was meant to thank the people for their unwavering commitment to the party in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, which contributed to the party’s victory particularly their efforts in retaining the Nabdam parliamentary seat for the NDC.

He highlighted that Naab Bileehsong La’anwont Namoog’s message reflects a common concern expressed by many supporters after elections unmet expectations.Aseidu Nketia recalled that at a time when the Nabdam seat was under threat, the NDC regained it: “The elephant snatched the seat once, but Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane came forward and they snatched the seat back,” he said, adding that victory should be understood better when in opposition, but when in government, people often complain about appointments and opportunities. He noted that disappointments after elections can arise when supporters feel the party has “taken them for granted.” According to him, opportunities and appointments are often influenced by circumstances, procedures, and the realities of governance, meaning not everyone who aspires will receive positions immediately.

He advised that supporters should be careful not to misinterpret delays as lack of love from the party, and urged them to remain thoughtful and patient as government work continues.
