Council of State Elections: Newly Elected Member Promises to Prioritize Assembly Members’ Plight

The newly elected member of the Council of State, PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam Ill, the paramount chief of the Chiana Traditional Area in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region of Ghana, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of assembly members. During his campaign, he encountered numerous concerns raised by the assembly members, particularly regarding their welfare and the need for the government to pay certain allowances to enable them to effectively carry out their duties in their respective electoral areas.

PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam Ill, who also serves as the president of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, secured 60% of the total valid votes cast (18 votes). He assured the people of the Upper East Region that he would not let them down, saying, “I’m very much for the trust that they have imposed on me. I would like to say that I wouldn’t let them down. I’m just going to work for the region. I’m going to deliver. I’m going to make sure all their concerns, all the things that when I met each and every delegate, what they complain about and what they have expressed their views about. I  will make sure that I’m able to counsel the president for us to see the best way forward to make sure that we can also get our fair share of the national cake.”

He expressed his observations from last year, noting that many assembly members felt their welfare had not been adequately addressed. He mentioned that assembly members often become “ambulances” in their electoral areas, using their own motorbikes to transport sick individuals to hospitals over long distances without any government financial support.

Additionally, PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam Ill promised to use his mandate to liaise with the president on several issues, including the revival of the Zuarungu meat factory and the establishment of an airport in the region to boost the local economy and alleviate burdens.

In an exclusive with the Paramount Chief of Sirigu Traditional Area, on his expectations, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III lamented the limited achievements of the former Council of State elder, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang.
He urged PE Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam Ill not to let the people of the region down and to prioritize road infrastructure development, as the region’s roads have been in poor condition.
