UER: My Office Will Not Condone Pull-Him-Down tactics; Come with Ideas to Help Develop the Region – Minister Warns

Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri UER Minister

The newly sworn-in Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Donatus Atanga Akamugri, emphasized that his office will not entertain those who engage in what he calls the “pull-him-down syndrome.” Instead, he welcomes individuals with vision and ideas to support the development of the region.

Speaking to party members who gathered to welcome him following his swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama, he lamented how this detrimental practice has hindered the region’s development and stated that it will not be tolerated moving forward.

He particularly urged the youth and those lobbying for positions such as district chief executives or municipal assembly members to remain loyal to the party. He cautioned that resorting to backbiting would not benefit the party. He shared his own experiences, noting that his attempts to become a regional minister had failed several times, yet he continued to serve as regional secretary until the party eventually gave him the opportunity to lead the region.

“I am honored to use this opportunity to appeal to the youth and members of the party, and indeed to the entire Upper East region, that patience is key. If you are patient in your endeavors, you will surely succeed one day. Rushing can lead you to seize what is not yours, and it may not last. I encourage everyone here to emulate my journey. I tried for regional membership in 2008 and was not selected. In 2012, I faced the same outcome. I didn’t give up, nor did I undermine those in authority. I supported them and worked tirelessly so that my efforts would be recognized. This is why I am here today,” he noted.

Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba, the Upper East Regional Chairman, urged party members to unite and support the minister in developing the region, as he prepares to return to Accra to lobby for more ministerial positions for the area.

Madam Theresa Anamoo, the Bolgatanga Central Constituency Women Organizer, known as the “Iron Lady,” expressed confidence that the minister’s plans to counter backbiting and the pull-him-down syndrome will contribute significantly to his success and support women through the Women’s Bank.
