Mr. Shadrach Ayelma Ayimbila, a talented young man from Gambigo, a suburb of the Bolgatanga East District in the Upper East Region of Ghana, has launched his second book titled “Scarcity of Conscience in the Abundance of Politics.” The event drew a gathering of key personalities, including friends and politicians from various political parties, such as Mr. Lance Adua Adugeba and Mr. Silas Mathew Amoah. Other dignitaries included the chief of Gambigo, colleagues, teachers, friends, and students.

During the launch, Mr. Ayelma Ayimbila passionately addressed the audience, lamenting how Ghanaian politicians often treat politics as a business. He criticized the way they support each other while fostering hatred among their followers, neglecting the importance of mutual assistance within their communities.
According to Shadrach, politicians are “unholy friends who pretend to be enemies in the daytime but at night eat together,” blind to the fact that their followers are often misled into creating animosity against the opposing party. He emphasized that the very people they are taught to hate are those who live in the same communities and could offer help in times of need.

“This book is not an attack on anybody,” he stated. “Writing is like music; when you sing and it doesn’t hurt or please somebody, you’ve not achieved your aim. If you are an NDC or NPP member and you read this book, you will say that I’m against the two parties because I’ve described them as unholy friends. They pretend in the daytime to be enemies, but at night they eat together, and we, the voters, are misled to fight each other.”

He further highlighted the contradictions in Ghanaian politics, pointing out that Vice President and presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has been labeled a liar by Bolgatanga Central MP, Walewale Adams Smith, still attended the funeral of Hon. Isaac Adongo’s mother, donating a cow and other undisclosed support. In return, during a similar unfortunate event for Dr. Bawumia, Hon. Isaac Adongo offered support as well.
Shadrach criticized the culture where voters are discouraged from associating with members of opposing parties. “You are not supposed to sit on the back of a motorbike with an NPP member; your party members will ask if you have crossed carpet. I saw you at an NDC program as an NPP member—have you crossed carpet?” This, he said, is why he wrote the book: to remind voters not to lose their conscience in politics, as politicians view politics as a business that primarily benefits them, not their followers.

He also shared his own experiences, lamenting how he has been vilified by his party for lobbying Mr. Silas Mathew Amoah, the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate, for funds to support a women’s group in his community. In contrast, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the current MP for Bolgatanga East, openly told constituents that he had lobbied Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, a friend and the current Minister of Health, for a job for Daniel Apeema, a member of the NDC, yet felt unable to have a friend from the same constituency in the NPP.
Despite the challenges leading up to his book launch, Mr. Shadrach announced that he is working on another book titled “Lonely in the Crowd” and is currently writing about Reverend Father Monsignor Roger Abotiyuure, Reverend Eastwood Anaba, and Manasseh Azure Awuni in a book titled “Unglorified Heroes.”
