UE/R: Mirigu chiefs and people raise funds to set up a multipurpose social centre

The paramount chief of the Mirigu Traditional area, Naba Anonsona Anisa Anthony Atasige III and the people of Mirigu are raising funds to build an ultra-modern social center. The facility, when completed will facilitate meetings in and around the traditional area.

The multipurpose community social center will have about two office spaces, a library, washrooms and a large room to house a number of people.

Students will have access to various kind of novels that will boost their learning abilities.

Speaking at this year’s Mirigu homecoming festival, Naba Anonsona entreated the support of the planning committee to see to the realization of the project.

The Homecoming event under the “inter- community Unity and Peaceful coexistence” is the full testament to their collective strength, resilience, and unity as a community and it was time for reflection, renewal, and reconnection with our roots.

“As we look back on our shared history, we are reminded of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our identity.
From the ancient traditions passed down through generations to the modern challenges we face, the Mirigu people have always persevered with dignity and determination our cultural tapestry which is woven with the threads of perseverance, compassion, and a deep reverence for our land and traditions.
Today, we come together to honor the sacrifices of ours ancestors, to celebrate the vibrancy of our traditions, and to reaffirm our commitment to preserving and promoting the unique heritage of Mirigu and harmonising unity among the people of the traditional area.
Let us embrace this Homecoming as an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of kinship, to uplift one another, and to pave the way for a future that honors our past while embracing the opportunities of tomorrow”.

The president of the Mirigu Development Association, Mr. Charles Akurugu admonished the chiefs and people to continue to work together in peace and harmony to address issues of poverty, unemployment, youth migration, low education and environmental degradation.

He indicated that the problems of the area cannot be solved by an individual. He called for a concerted effort of all stakeholders.

He noted that the foremost amongst the many aims and objectives of MiDA is “Fostering of peace, unity and love among all Miriba an promoting and improving cordial relationship among the people the surrounding towns and communities for peaceful co-existence and development.” As we all know, there is no sustainable development without peace. With peace, resources, both financial and human that would have been diverted to controlling (or creating) violence would be freed up for development.
