The Bolgatanga East District in the Upper East Region has topped the 2021 malaria league table of the region due to the District best performance in almost all best key indicators ,that is the public health intervention programs put in place to fight against Malaria in the District.

Bolgatanga East District is one of the newest districts, but manage to beat 14 sisters districts to the first position in the league table.

Below is the League Table

The Bongo and Builsa North Municipal Assemblies came brackets for the second position slot with Builsa South making it to the third, Kasena Nankana East Municipal, Garu, Tempane, Bolgatanga Municipal, Talensi Bawku West, Nabdam, Kasena Nankana West, Pusiga and Binduri scoring last position.

Speaking exclusively to word news, Mr. Sydney Abilba noted that the ranking was meant to push some of the Districts who are not adhering to the Public Health Interventions programs like the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention, the usage of bed nets and ensuring that all pregnant women use the sulfadoxime pyrimethamine in their respective districts.

Mr Sydney Abilba Regional Focal Person For Malaria Upper East.

“To ensure that others also work very hard, we do as much as possible, to ensure we rank them a little bit on some of the key indicators service especially on malaria to look at the district that are performing well and those that are not performing so well, so we can also push up to ensure they take up the challenge very well to locate the gaps that need to be address, so basically for 2021 one of our newest District, that is the Bolgatanga East did very well, followed by Bongo , Builsa North and the list performing one in terms of malaria cases in the region was Binduri, so this is a call to all stakeholders in the region and all those within that district to ensure that all our malaria intervention activities just like sleeping under bed net are well adhered to, people take the bed nets in our society, but they do not sleep under them.

The ranking of the Districts are to look at our performance in terms of our adherence to the public health intervention if it is for the pregnant women to go for  sulfadoxime pyrimethamine, we ensure they go in for them, sleeping under bed nets , ensuring children under five go for the seasonal Malaria chemoprevention and to ensure they use the public health interventions”. He noted.

Mr Sydney Abilla also noted that the service uses some indicators to rank all the districts. Three majors indicators, were the number of tested and untested malaria cases rate as well the number of malaria Confirm cases, the number of pregnant women that have received and use the sulfadoxime pyrimethamine and the number of bed nets distributed to children and pregnant women .
