Zanlerigu Community in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region were crowned champions of the 2021 Sakote Tenglebgre soccer Gala when they beat Duusi from the Talensi District on penalties after a goalless draw. This year’s gala did not produce a lot goals on open play as compare to previous ones.
This year’s gala started on 23rd November and ended on the 26th of November, 2021. The football gala is normally played as part of preparations and to create the awareness of the Sakote Tenglebgre Festival in the Nabdam District, Upper East Region and beyong. The festival is celebrated to thank God for a successful harvest.
Since the inclusion of football gala in 1999, it has been struggling for support. But this year’s gala saw a releave, when Adonko Company Limited decided to support them by being the tittle sponsors for this year’s gala.
Speaking at closing ceremony of the football gala at the Sakote Primary School Park, the Upper East Regional Manager of Adonko Company Limited, Mr. James Amoah says he was impressed by the way the gala was organized and promise that Adonko Company Limited will make it big next year.
The paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area and a former president of the Upper East House of Chiefs, Naab Sigri Bewong congratulated the winners, Zanlerigu Community and edged the other communities to prepare for next year. He express excitement to Adonko for sponsoring the football Gala this year and said he and his kingdom look forward to Adonko to help sponsor the festival itself.
