Bawku: cease the accusations and let’s embrace peace – Kusaug Youth Movement.

A youth group named ‘Kusaug Youth Movement’ has admonished their Mamprusi counterparts in Bawku to put to an end the ongoing accusations of persons of repute relative to the current impasse in Bawku. It will be recalled that some Mamprusi youth in Bawku held a presser following the renewed chieftaincy battle and among other things accused the Upper East Regional minister, Stephen Yakubu and some other persons of  Kussaug root occupying varied positions of bias.

The Mampusi youth in the presser called on the government to dismiss the upper East regional minister. But the Kusaug Youth Movement in a counter press conference held at the Upper East Regional, Bolgatanga described the accusations as unfortunate and called on well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore same. Ayaaba Adams who read the release noted ‘In the light of these and many more accusations, we wish to advise the Mamprusis Youth of Bawku to swallow their pride and avoid accusing well-meaning Ghanaians including Hon. Stephen Yakubu, Hon. Lawyer Dendiok Kpemka, Hon. Aludiba Hannan and the Upper East Regional Coordinating Director, as mentioned in their misleading presser’. The statement continued ‘Kusasis are law-abiding citizens and peace-loving people and we wish to urge all Ghanaians to support our peace efforts. We again call on our Mamprusi Youth to give peace a chance.’

They labeled the accusations as a propaganda cocked to tarnish the image of the accused persons including the regional minister.

They called on the Mamprusi youth to give peace a chance. Meanwhile, the curfew hours has been reviewed and now stands at 6am to 6pm.

Below is the full presser:

RESPONSE OF KUSAUG YOUTH MOVEMENT TO THE BAWKU MAMPRUSI YOUTH ASSOCIATION

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, we welcome you to this press conference to address some inaccuracies in statements made by a group of Mamprusi Youth of Bawku.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we would have ignored the said presser. But our brothers from the Mamprusi Youth of Bawku spewed a lot of lies which if not corrected will mislead the general public and peace-loving Ghanaians. We thus wish to set the records straight and to inform you on recent happenings in Bawku.

In their presser, our Mamprusi compatriots alleged that the Upper East and North East Regional Ministers visited the Nayiri and sought permission to extend the performance of the funeral of Late Tampuri Zangbego Turiba.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is not only a lie but a grand scheme fashioned to sabotage the two gentlemen.

Able men of the Media, does it not baffle you that someone died about 40 years ago and his funeral is to be performed now? In fact, the late Tampuri Zangbego Turiba whose purported funeral the Mamprusis attempted performing didn’t die as a chief but as a commoner. He was dethroned before he died and a series of Islamic funeral rites were duly performed.

The Mamprusis in Bawku are destructive and so because they have nothing to lose since they do not come from Bawku. This explains why they have always taken arms rather than dialogue or pursues the law courts. Besides, their ill ambitions have always led them to accuse well-meaning individuals including their kinsmen otherwise, how could the North East Regional Minister, who is a known Mamprusi conspire with Hon. Stephen Yakubu to favour Kusasis.

We are at lost wits to understand their accusation that the Upper East Minister is varying the implementation of the impending curfew. The imposition of the current curfew is on Bawku Municipality and its environs. This implies that communities in the Pusiga, Garu, Binduri, and Zebilla District Assemblies are excluded since they do not belong to the Bawku Municipal Assembly. Does excluding these districts suggest the Minister is biased or discriminatory? If so, then they should blame the Interior Minister and not the innocent Upper East Regional Minister who is simply implementing what has been imposed by way of curfew. Perhaps, they do not understand that Bawku Municipality is different from Pusiga, Garu, Binduri, and Zebilla District Assemblies. To this end, we unconditionally forgive them for their inability to grasp the Queen’s language in the use of ‘Bawku Municipality and its environs’. For clarity, ‘Bawku Municipality and its environs’ as contained in the imposition document means communities or suburbs around Bawku in which the movements, activities, actions and inactions of people within those areas (environs) are likely to disrupt the order or implementation of the curfew. The communities outside the jurisdiction of Bawku Municipality are thus legally exempted from the enforcement of the curfew regulation. Therefore, accusing the Upper East Regional Minister of bias and favoring Kusasis is baseless and mischievous.

The unfortunate happenings in Bawku now are because of their arrogance, deceit, and empty pride. Our Mamprusis brothers must come to appreciate that Bawku will never come under any form of colonization as was the case in the past.

We are aware that the Bawku Mamprusis are riding on the shoulders of individuals close to the corridors of power. We are not naive of the political maneuverings, the hate game, and the grand scheme manufactured to dislodge the current Upper East Regional Minister. This is so because one of them strongly lobbied for the Upper East Regional Minister’s post but lost due to incompetence.

We, including all peace loving Ghanaians, are fed up with these awkward accusations and activities by the Mamprusis in Bawku that send Bawku backward. The Bawku Mamprusis are not the only people in the northern territory and must realize that it takes two to tangle.

In the light of these and many more accusations, we wish to advise the Mamprusis Youth of Bawku to swallow their pride and avoid accusing well-meaning Ghanaians including Hon. Stephen Yakubu, Hon. Lawyer Dendiok Kpemka, Hon. Aludiba Hannan and the Upper East Regional Coordinating Director, as mentioned in their misleading presser.

We thus urge the Mamprusi Youth in Bawku to dance to their own mischievous tunes. They created them and must dance alone and suffer alone. They should not now attempt to draw others into their mess.

We are therefore calling on the President of the Republic, H.E.  Akuffo Addo, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to ignore their presser.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, Kusasis are law-abiding citizens and peace-loving people and we wish to urge all Ghanaians to support our peace efforts. We again call on our Mamprusi Youth to give peace a chance.

Long live Ghana

Long live Upper East Region

Long live Kusaug
