
The Minister of information, Kojo Opong Nkrumah has paid an amount of Ghc10,000.00 to the Upper East Regional GJA in fulfillment of a pledge he made to the Association in September 2019 towards the organization of the maiden edition of the Upper East GJA awards which took place same year.
Hon Kojo Opong Nkrumah, during the launch of the maiden Upper East Regional GJA awards as a guest speaker in September, 2019, pledged to support the association with Ghc10,000.00 towards the awards. The money however was never paid to the the association till the whole event was over.
Media men in the region and beyond expressed disappointment in the inability of the Minister to honour his pledge which was openly made at the Extee Hotel in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region.
The regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association, Mr. Eric Amor was not spared as accusing figured were pointed at him for allegedly collecting the money and pocketing it. The issue of the whereabout of the minister’s money resurfaced recently and it was heatedly debated by members of the media fraternity on various social media platforms.

As part of a working visit to Upper East Region, the minister, Hon. Kojo Opong Nkrumah said he has become aware of the inability of his Chief director to pay the money to the GJA as a result of some challenges. He however directed the chief director to pay the money to the association before he begins his engagement with the media men of the region.
The payment of the money has brought to an end the endless accusations targeted at the GJA chairman and the minister of information for the past two years.
Hon. Opong Nkrumah however appealed to Journalist to desist from being in a hurry to publish stories without first cross checking. He said suck Ill informed reportage has the tendency to damage the reputation of the victims and their families or even deny them opportunities in the future.
