Food Shortage Hits SHS schools in Upper East Region.

Senior High Schools in the Upper East Region has been hit with food shortage.
Checks in some Senior High school’s in the region by our reporters has revealed that the schools were only given emergency feed when schools resumed on 15th January,2021 which only lasted for two weeks.

The schools have since not received food supplies from their suppliers for the last two weeks, leading to the shortage.

speaking to a Word FM reporter in an interview on condition of anonymity, some head teachers revealed that ” our suppliers no longer supply us food because government has not paid them for some time now. No plea by me will even make them soften their stance. And we understand them”.

” we have to announce to the students what the situation is for them to bear with us.” One headteacher said.
Another headteacher said “as I speak with you, we don’t have oil. the only oil in the stores is palm oil, and that is what we are managing with.”

The schools said they have abandoned the national menu which is supposed to be followed by all Senior High Schools in Ghana.

” sometimes we have gari but no beans or kankey and no sadine. So we can not follow the national menu. We are managing with what we have until something comes.”

Schools will be closed down in the next week or two if the situation is not attended to because the schools will virtually run out of food.
