The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bongo Constituency in Ghana’s Upper East Region, Lawyer Charles Bawaduah (“Homeboy”) , has supported 2,062 2026 BECE candidates in the district with mathematical sets and pens to help them sit for their examinations successfully.
Out of the 2,062 candidates, 888 are males and 1,174 are females, Lawyer Bawaduah noted that the support is part of his effective use of the parliamentary recess period in his constituency.

He said the candidates will write their exams across nine (9) centers in 77 participating schools drawn from both public and private institutions. With the BECE exams starting on Monday, 4th May 2026, the MP said he understands the anxiety and fear that often come with such a major life milestone.
He explained that this situation can affect candidates’ concentration and performance, and therefore emphasized the need for counseling and encouragement to reduce exam-related anxiety and improve their outcomes.
Hon. Charles Bawaduah met with the 2026 BECE candidates to motivate them ahead of the examinations. He urged them to be brave and to avoid examophobia which he described as an irrational fear that can disrupt learning and performance.
Speaking to the candidates, he said: “This is your first major examination in life, and it has implications for your future. Your performance in this exam will determine the type of senior high school and course of study you will pursue. So, you must not toy with this examination you must take it seriously.
He also advised candidates not to engage in examination malpractice, or to even discuss practicing it.
He warned that such actions have serious consequences and can even lead to the cancellation of examinations.
He further stated that Bongo District is not known for examination malpractice, and encouraged students to follow the good example of previous candidates.
Hon. Bawaduah reminded the students that he was once in their position.
He said he sat for his first examination in 1990, during the first batch of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) system, recalling that candidates then slept at the social center and wrote at BONSEC.
He admonished candidates to maintain discipline, and ensure that their handwriting is neat and legible during the exams.
In a symbolic gesture for all the candidates sitting for the 2026 BECE, the MP donated 2,100 mathematical sets and pens to be shared among the candidates. The items were presented at Bongo St. Annes Junior High School to the District Director of Education and other officials from the Bongo GES, who were present to facilitate distribution to the candidates.
