According to him, over 150 houses were damaged or destroyed, and more than 500 people have been displaced. He noted that some of the affected persons do not have places to lay their heads.

Mr. Akurugu also explained that the storm caused power outages in some communities because electrical infrastructure and poles were damaged.

He further stated that several houses, school buildings, including four primary schools , and two churches were affected by the rainstorm. He noted that the Upper East Regional NADMO Director, Mrs. Rebecca Assibi Akolgo, together with her team visited the district on Saturday, 25 April 2026 to assess the situation and interact with the affected residents. He said the NADMO team assured the victims that government efforts are underway to provide support, including plans to raise temporary shelter for the displaced persons.

He stated that the district is also scheduled to hold a Disaster Management/Executive Committee (DISEC) meeting to determine the next steps.

Mr. Akurugu lamented that while many residents need roofing sheets , some houses had been completely pulled down, meaning the affected families require more than roofing materials to rebuild. He emphasized that the victims need urgent attention, especially as the rains are expected to continue

.He therefore appealed to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders, including individuals, to support the district to help the victims recover.

He urged the affected communities to receive assistance in areas such as rebuilding and temporary accommodation.

The DCE appealed to residents of the Binduri District to take preventive measures, including improving house structures and planting more trees around their homes , as further rainstorms are expected in the region.
