The Association of Education Accountants have been advised to eschew all negative attitude that is impeding the professionalism of accountants.
Mrs. Naa Dei, the Chief Accountant of the Ghana Education service gave the advice as a guest speaker at the opening ceremony of the 2019/2020 annual delegates Conference of the Association of Education Accountants hosted in the regional capital of the Upper East Region, Bolgatanga.
Mrs. Naa Dei advised participants to eschew all forms of nonchalant and unprofessional attitude which is giving a bad name to the profession and delaying the delivery of their mandate.
“it is hoped that through this workshop, you would assess your skills, competencies, and improve upon yourself to offer effective and efficient financial advice towards the achievement of Educational objectives.”
“nonchalant attitude or unprofessionalism and dishonesty should be a thing of the past.”
Madam Dei also admonished the Accountants to acquaint themselves with the new laws and regulations governing the profession.
“I urge each one to acquaint yourselves with the new laws and regulations. Your theme, Strengthening Controls And Financial Management In Ghana Education Service, The Role Of The Accountant, I hope will afford you the opportunity to wake up from your sleep if you were sleeping”
Threats to Financial Controls
Mr. Alhaji Azongo, the Upper East Regional coordinating direction who was representing the regional minister, noted that the Public accounts committee and the auditor general department has consistently noted poor accounting practices as major threats to financial management.
“Poor accounting practices, internal control failures and poor financial decisions are found by the Public accounts committee and the auditor general as the major threats to financial management”
The three-day conference was held on the theme: Strengthening Controls and Financial Management In Ghana Education Service, The Role Of The Accountant.
The conference was being held in the Upper East region for the first time since its inception. It brought together education accountants across the country.
