The parliamentary candidate of the Progressive People Party for the Bongo Constituency, George Afari A-Engbige says he is certain of capturing the Parliamentary seat from the national Democratic Congress.
The Bongo constituency has been a comfortable zone for the NDC since the inception of the 4th republic but Mr. Afari is determined to change the narrative this time round.
But Mr. George Afari touts himself an ‘’Agent Changer’’ and a pacesetter in bringing development completion into Bongo Politics.
According to him anything he does opponents his does more, anything he promises and his opponents goes to do them.
His he said was his happiness during the 2016 elections campaign when he first came into the picture and the story is still the same in this 2020 campaign seasons.
‘’I came as an agent of change though I didn’t win but the impact I made is something I am proud of and I am happy for coming on board, I brought in competition, at Zoko I provided one streetlight and within a week they trooped there with streetlights and the whole place was lighted up, Gori I promised them a streetlight because our mothers who are weaving stroll baskets asked for one, so I promise that within a week I will provide them with one and within three days they provided the whole place with streetlight, I am happy that the things that I will always promise, they come to do them. I derailed one bole hole in Zoko and that brought them about seven bole holes.’’
He came close in the last elections of 2016 by wining about 12932 of the total vote count representing 33.62% defeating the New Patriotic Party’s Gabriel Nsoh Ade Agana who had 6800 but, came second to the NDC’s Edward Abambire Bawa who pulled 18,442 representing 47.94%.
Mr. Afari is hoping to build on the gains he made in the last election when he was just a new entrant into politics and riding on a party that was new to the constituency.
‘’People were not aware of my capabilities, people called me and Said I was more of a pastor then a politician but I told them that if we say that pastors should not go into politics they will come out with bad results.’’
Despite the challenges of the Banking Sector clean-up which affected PPP’s 2016 Presidential candidate and Founder , the PPP’s parliamentary candidate for Bongo believes the party is battle ready for the up-coming December 7th polls.
‘’ The PPP is still relevant in the political environment in Ghana and the third force and working hard to improve on that, trust me there will be a great surprise.’’
Speaking on the Word Community Watch Show, Mr. Afar, alleged that people were fed-up of supporting the NDC without anything to show for it.
He bemoaned the bad nature of roads, school infrastructure and other deplorable infrastructure in the constituency and promise to be the messiah of the constituency if elected.
‘’We have the youth who are supporting them without any benefit, we have the youth who are economically active in sports, education, weaving of strew baskets and other crafts yet, after the elections nobody asks of them.”
‘’If you look at road network the roads are deplorable, deplorable educational infrastructure for our young ones to learn, they are our future leaders if we don’t come out to protect our future leader it means that our future is blur that is why I have come to change those kind of situations’’
Competition in the Bongo constituency will be between Hon. Edward Bawa of the NDC and the incumbent member of Parliament, Hon. Peter Ayimbisa of the NPP and the District Chief Executive and Mr. George Afari.
But, who will win the parliamentary seat is still a question that can only be answered after December 7th.
