Bolgatanga SHS headmaster calls on government forsupport to build fence wall to curb student indiscipline

Mr Anthony Adimazoya, headmaster of Bolgatanga Senior High School

The Headmaster of Bolgatanga Senior High School in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region of Ghana has called on the government to assist in constructing a fence around the school to enhance student discipline. This appeal was made during a media event marking the handover of a refurbished dining hall and kitchen, renovated by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

The Headmaster expressed concern that the lack of a fenced perimeter poses a significant challenge to maintaining discipline among students.

Mr. Adimazoya acknowledged that his disciplinary actions, which included addressing students who left campus to watch football and engage in betting, have caused discontent among some parents. However, he emphasized that his primary goal is to foster discipline within the school environment. He believes that constructing a fence would greatly aid in curbing such indiscipline.

He mentioned ongoing discussions with former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to initiate the fencing project, but these efforts have yet to yield results. Mr. Adimazoya is now working to connect with the new government to secure support for the construction of the fence.

“I am pursuing further discussions about the fence wall. I was previously in talks with Dr. Adutwum, and now that he is no longer in office, I am negotiating with others who are closer to the government,” Mr. Adimazoya stated. “If we are able to get a fence built, I believe it will significantly help in maintaining discipline at the school.”

Mr Edward Azuah Akolgo assembly member for the Winkogo electoral area.

Mr. Edward Azuah Akolgo, the assembly member for the Winkogo electoral area and an alumnus of the school, noted that the current issues of indiscipline have been longstanding. He expressed hope that a collective effort would lead to the construction of the fence, which he believes would significantly reduce indiscipline among students.

“I think there are efforts being made behind the scenes. I urge our students to support our leaders with their prayers so that we can achieve this goal soon. Once the fence is completed, it will position the school to overcome many challenges,” he remarked.

Mr Ayine Timothy vice chairman Tangabiisi

Mr. Ayine Timothy, the National Vice Chairman of the Tangabiisi Association, which comprises former students of Bolgatanga Senior High School, acknowledged the contributions of alumni in addressing critical needs of the school, which often go unreported. He expressed gratitude to the PTA for their ongoing efforts to meet the school’s pressing needs.
