Bolgatanga East : Chief Breaks Ground for Community-Led Maternity Block

Naba Patrick Ayimbila Asaliya broke the ground for the construction of the community led maternity block.

The Yarigabisi Naba, Patrick Asaliya Ayimbila, has officially broken ground for the construction of a community maternity block project following the recent celebration of the annual Akai-zenga festival. This initiative aims to raise funds to build a maternity block that will support pregnant women who currently visit the Yarigabisi Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facility to deliver, often without the necessary accommodations for safe delivery.

After the groundbreaking ceremony, Naba Patrick Ayimbila Asaliya appealed to the community to support the committee overseeing the project. He emphasized the importance of the maternity block as a legacy for future generations, reflecting the efforts and plans of their ancestors for the entire Yarigabisi community.

He also expressed gratitude to the assembly member for the Yarigabisi electoral area for his substantial contributions toward the maternity block’s construction and other meaningful community development efforts.

Mr Yelkoang John Physician assistant at the Gambigo health centre.

In an exclusive interview with Word News, Mr. Yelkoang John, a Physician Assistant at the Yarigabisi and Gambigo health facilities, noted the timeliness and significance of the initiative. He stated, “This is actually the condition that we are talking about. It’s actually the support that you are coming on board because government alone cannot put up all the health care needs of the community so in such a committee it’s coming our social initiative and the thing which is important it was encouraging for them to come to this day and really be grateful.”

Mr. Yelkoang further explained that the maternity block would address the health needs of the growing population, which exceeds 8,000. He highlighted that the current CHPS facility is inadequate, consisting of just one room for all services. He expressed concern that relying solely on the regional hospital for care could lead to overwhelming situations and mistakes due to overcrowding. “It’s better we can have a befitted facility so that we can treat at least many of the basic conditions at the facility than moving them to the regional hospital,” he added.

Mr Akunlebge Samuel Atiah, Yarigabisi youth chairman.

Mr. Akunlebge Samuel Atiah, a youth representative from Yarigabisi, shared that following the Akai-zenga festival, they have raised funds and plan to start laying the foundation while awaiting pledges from the community. He noted that they have successfully gathered over 40,000 Ghana cedis and urged those who made pledges to honor them to help complete the project.
