2024 Election: Daniel Mahama Holds Victory Walk in Winkogo, Promises to Build Modern Market

As political parties wrap up their campaigns today, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by parliamentary candidate Daniel Dung Mahama, organized a victory walk in Winkogo, a suburb of the Talensi constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

The event saw participation from the youth of Winkogo, constituency executives, ward executives, former executives, and former parliamentary aspirants, all gathering to canvas for votes in this key community, which is believed to determine the winner of the parliamentary election.

Addressing party members in Winkogo, Mr. Mahama promised to build a modern market for the residents if elected, aiming to create jobs for the youth and women in the area. He also pledged to expand the oldest dam in Winkogo, construct a police station and a fire station to enhance community safety, and establish a teacher training college for BONABOTO in the Talensi constituency. Additionally, he committed to building a bridge for the people of Awaradone.

“We will build a fitting market for the women of Winkogo to create more job opportunities. While other zones have teacher training colleges, BONABOTO currently lacks one. I will ensure a new BONABOTO teacher training college is built in 2025. If you vote for me and John Dramani Mahama, we will create jobs for the youth in mining and ensure the constituency receives its fair share from mining companies by enforcing compliance with their social corporate responsibility,” Daniel Mahama stated.

He also mentioned plans for expanding rural electrification projects to areas like Apaazanga-Done and Kanibiisi, which have yet to receive electricity.

On the issue of mining in the Talensi constituency, Mahama highlighted that many local youth have been overlooked for employment opportunities due to a memorandum of understanding with mining companies that favors applicants from the southern sector. He vowed to address this disparity and ensure that the needed job opportunities are made available to the youth of the constituency.

Mr. Mahama further appealed for votes to implement a 24-hour economy, establish a women’s bank for financial support, provide free healthcare and tuition for first-time university students, and offer 15 tractors to support farmers in the constituency to enhance productivity.

The regional communication director for the NDC in the Upper East Region, Mr. Jonathan Salifu Abdulalai, remarked that despite earlier concerns about the possibility of “skirt and blouse” voting in Winkogo, the turnout for the victory walk signals strong support for Daniel Dung Mahama and former President John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming election on December 7, 2024. He urged the people of Winkogo to vote en masse for both candidates to ensure victory.
